If you think you have spotted signs of a cockroach infestation, or even an individual cockroach our professional pest control technicians can help.
Our domestic cockroach treatment is based on a 2-visit treatment, a total cost of £144 including VAT. This will consist of identifying, baiting, monitoring and professional recommendations on how to prevent a reinfestation from occurring. N.B. Additional chargeable visits at £72 per visit, may be required, depending on level of infestation, our technician will discuss this with you during a treatment.
Some facts about cockroaches
Myth: Cockroaches can survive a nuclear explosion.
Truth: Whilst cockroaches can survive 10x the radiation that a human can survive, they cannot survive a nuclear blast. It is therefore not suggested as a recommended removal procedure, there are indeed much easier ways to get rid of them.
Myth: Cockroaches only invade dirty homes.
Truth: Cockroaches might enter clean homes, depending on ease of access to the water and food sources in the home. Dirtier homes just provide easier access, so it is more common. Therefore, it is important to not only keep your home clean, but also to ensure that cracks, crevices and points of entry for cockroaches and other insects are properly sealed to deny harbourage.
Coming across cockroaches can be very distressing whether in your home or a business. In the UK we most commonly come across the German (Blattella Germanica), Oriental (Blatta Orientalis) and Brown Banded (Supella longipalpa) cockroaches. Whilst none of these can survive in our weather externally, they can all be found in different environments within our homes.
Why we control cockroaches
Numerous health conditions are closely related to the presence of cockroaches in your home, to name a few:-
Food Poisoning: After eating rotting food on the floor or wherever they find it, they can crawl over and infect utensils and food preparation surfaces.
Dysentery: Comes from ingesting their droppings, which they leave behind wherever they go.
Allergies: Cockroach skin, droppings and saliva are some of the most common causes of an allergic reaction in the UK.

Where you will find them
Both cockroaches can be found around heating ducts, pipes, stoves and sinks. Most call outs relate to the German Cockroach.
German Cockroach
The German cockroach favours higher temperatures and humidity, with a common nickname for it being the “steam fly”. You are likely to find them behind appliances where you have warm motors, such as an oven, fridge or boiler.
Oriental Cockroach
Oriental cockroaches will thrive in cool, damp areas such as basements and drains.
Signs of a Cockroach infestation
Lifecycle
German cockroaches undergo three distinct life phases: egg, nymph and adult this is described as an ‘Incomplete Metamorphosis’. Their entire life cycle spans approximately 100 days, although this is dependent on factors such as temperature and diet.
Droppings

Harbourage
All stages of the cockroach (Instars) will harbour together where possible until competition for food sources drives them to find new places. They prefer spots where they can just about fit into and provides a constant source of heat such as under a fridge, microwave or boiler.
Active hours
Cockroaches are nocturnal (active during the night), any sightings during the day are indicative of an infestation. If their harbourages are disturbed i.e. the moving of a bin, they will quickly scatter.
Smell
Although a cockroach does not smell on its own: an infestation will carry a heavy odour. People often describe the smell as sweet, almond like and obnoxious. Due to their preferred habitats it is often accompanied by the smell of rotting food.
