Nuisance

Black garden ants are a nuisance pest, but not a risk to human health.

When to treat

Start treatment when the first signs of activity are observed, normally in late spring

Flying Ants

During the summer, usually hot humid days, winged flying ants, which are the reproductive males and females, have nuptial swarming flights. Mating takes place in the air and the female then seeks out a nest site where she stays for the winter, laying eggs the following spring in order to start up a new colony. This is a natural occurrence and flying activity should be over within 48 hours. We are unable to carry out treatments whilst ants are flying.

Food

Ants feed on a wide range of foods but are particularly attracted to sweet substances such as sugar or honey and will often invade homes, kitchens and cupboards etc. in search of such food

Trails

When a foraging worker ant successfully locates a food source, it is able to communicate this information to its co-workers which can lead to substantial numbers of worker ants invading and contaminating human foods.

Nest

Ants nest outside in grass, walls, under paving, and will happily enter buildings in search of food.

Control

Control measures are only required when ants are invading or living inside properties.
